Commissioned by the Écrins National Park (Rhône-Alpes region) / 2009
During a one-year assignment for the Écrins National Park in the French Alps, I found myself looking more closely at the people inhabiting the region. I was interested in what constitutes the identity and specificity of the people and the area as a whole, where tradition remains in integral part of the modern setting.
In a rough territory where the seasons are very pronounced, these men and women perpetuate the mountain tradition of doing different jobs in different seasons. Just like their ancestors who peddled wares in the valleys during the off seasons, they have two jobs and must be mobile to do both. Via this project, I wanted to show the different facets of each person and the diversity inherent in each personality.
The exhibition comprises portraits in black and white, as well as colour landscapes, presenting the people and the area.
