Photographic work within the framework of an international cooperation project
The Mapuche (People of the Earth) are the last Indians living in the region near the Land of Fire. Two million Mapuche inhabit this territory, divided between Chilli and Argentina. Repressed and forced to live under difficult conditions, the Mapuche have resisted all invasions and have conserved their agricultural way of life.
I was a member of a multidisciplinary cooperation commission formed on the initiative of the Mapuche Indians to study aspects related to the environment, agriculture, ecotourism, urbanism, culture, education and human rights.
My photographs reflect the rich nature of their traditional culture rooted in social and economic reality as well as the struggle of the Mapuche to defend it. The photographs are accompanied by texts and messages from the Mapuche.
