Project commissioned for the 50th anniversary of EDF, the French electricity board / 1996
Rather than simply depicting the visual reality of the world of hydraulics, my choice as an artist was to use the museum space to create an atmosphere reflecting the sensations of this universe. I focused on workers whose job was “turning water to light” and designed the exhibition as a personal tour, bringing the visitor in contact with the power and mystery of this process. The installation of this exhibition featured original lighting, mechanisms and an audio creation.
The theme, water and light, is reflected in the subject matter but also in the support media and the surrounding decor. For instance, the photographs are printed on various media such as fabrics with fluid textures, transparent films and glass.
The lighting, an integral part of the exhibition, was created in collaboration with a lighting engineer to create the desired relationship between the photographic installations and the theme of water, electricity and light.
The audio project was based on recordings made by the composer on various hydroelectric sites. It also forms an integral part of the decor, reflecting reality while at the same time enticing the imagination.
